Collaborative Kick-off Meeting for Osteo Research at the University of Glasgow
A collaborative kick-off meeting for the research project 'Efficient Privacy-Preserving Federated Learning for Osteoporosis Diagnosis and Healthcare Applications' was held at the University of Glasgow. The meeting brought together research partners from Thailand and the UK to discuss the project's direction, experimental design, and resource management. The Thai research team visited Glasgow to collaborate with Dr. Nguyen Truong's team, ensuring a strong start to the international partnership.
| Date | Activities |
|---|---|
5th July 2025 | - Depart from Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand, at 2:40. - Arrived at Glasgow Airport, UK, at 12:45. - Stay at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel for 7 nights. |
6th July 2025 | - Researchers from the Thai side get together with Dr. Nguyen Truong to wrap up the plan for activities and experiments that will be carried out during this visit. |
7th July 2025 | The University of Glasgow will host a seminar for all partners to disseminate the project`s research activities and expected outcomes. All staff and research students at the School of Computing Science and the James Watt School of Engineering will be invited to the seminar. - (Morning) All research partners (i.e., 1. Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, Thammasat University; 2. Faculty of Medicine and Thammasat University Hospital, Thammasat University; 3. Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, and 4. School of Computing Science, the University of Glasgow), introduce their institutions. Then, all research partners present the concepts and current progress of the collaborative project “Efficient Privacy-Preserving Federated Learning for Osteoporosis Diagnosis from Radiography Data”. - (Afternoon) Research laboratory tour at the University of Glasgow. |
8th July 2025 | - Internal discussion among the research team (Thai and UK researchers) to conclude the research direction, experimental design, and resource management. This will be a good opportunity for researchers from medical and computer sciences/engineering backgrounds to discuss the problem statements in detail and try to propose research with practical implementation. |
9th July 2025 | - Thai researchers will be introduced to the Glasgow Cyber Defence Group to explore the potential for further collaborative research and real-world implementation, limitations, and challenges. - The metaverse creation of the University of Glasgow will be carried out as part of the “TU Global Virtual Hospital” under collaborative research. |
10th July 2025 | - Continuation of metaverse creation. - Summarize the work done/activities/achievements from this visit, discuss a concrete plan for future activities (especially the plan for the UK researcher to visit Thai partners), and prepare for the summary presentation. |
11th July 2025 | - The researchers from the Thai and UK sides together give a summary presentation (including the progress from this visit and plans for future work/activities/collaboration) to the head of School of Computing Science, and invited parties. |
12th July 2025 | - Depart from Glasgow Airport, UK, at 14:35. - Arrive at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Thailand, at 12:30 on 13th July 2025. |
The meeting was an excellent opportunity for the research teams to align their efforts and strengthen their collaboration. The discussions and presentations laid a solid foundation for the project's success, setting a concrete plan for future activities, including a reciprocal visit by the UK researcher to Thailand. The kick-off meeting marked a significant step in advancing the joint research on federated learning for osteoporosis diagnosis.
